One of the questions I’m asked the most is “Where do you get your ideas?” I rarely give a good response because I don’t always know! However, I can answer it for the Resort to Romance Series.

The Resort to Romance series is a multi-author series of ten sweet romance novellas set on a fictional island in the Bahamas. These are light-hearted, clean romances destined to warm you up through the final months of winter. A new novella releases each week—starting today!

Here’s the premise:

It’s Matchmaking Week at an all-inclusive resort on a private island in the Bahamas. Each guest has been expertly paired and is here to enjoy one full week with their match. While there’s no money-back guarantee on the paid trip, the participants are guaranteed to find love!

The Origin of Resort to Romance

Jessica R. Patch is one of my best friends. She writes inspirational romantic suspense novels for Love Inspired Suspense. We share the same agent and the same editor! Dare I say we share the same sense of humor, too? We talk pretty much every weekday.

So last February, she “called” me (we use the walkie-talkie Voxer App), and we chatted about some writing projects other authors were doing. One of our mutual friends had taken part in a multi-author series, and we thought it looked like fun. We started throwing out ideas—just for laughs.

At that point we weren’t thinking we would put our own series together. We were being silly. We explored different settings. What about an island? What if it was Matchmaking Week? Who owned the island? Why was there Matchmaking Week?

Somehow two eccentric sisters—older ladies, spinsters—owned the island. Why would they be into Matchmaking Week? Naturally, their old friend, Cooter Jo Franklin (I kid you not, that name flew out of one of our mouths!) gave them the island.

We were howling with laughter at this point. As we got more ideas—and they were so over the top!—we’d check in with each other.

By late afternoon, the idea had grabbed us both. The decision was instant. We were putting together our own romance series.

The Creation of Resort to Romance

Since Jessica and I have similar work ethics, we quickly divided up the various responsibilities that come with spearheading a project like this. We initially invited fourteen established authors in the sweet and inspirational romance genres, and we ended up having ten authors total.

Each novella takes place at the same place and time with the same parameters. Some of the characters make cameos in the other stories. The two eccentric spinster sisters? Well, expect to see plenty of Ginny and Goldie Sterling throughout the series.
