Share your inspiration behind Deadly Amish Reunion.

D: When I was writing Plain Refuge (June 2020) my hero Aidan had a younger sister named Jennie. I really liked Jennie and I wanted to tell her story. I already knew that she was a young widow with a small child. My problem was finding a hero for her to fall in love with. I struggled with this for a while. One day, I thought, too bad her husband is dead. Then I thought, but what if he isn’t? I needed a reason why he’d have left her. The only way I could think of was if he couldn’t remember her. And that’s how the amnesia thread was born in Deadly Amish Reunion.

B: Ooooo! I can’t resist a good amnesia thread!

What book(s) are you reading right now?

D: Right now, I’m reading A Glitter of Gold by Liz Johnson. She’s a stellar storyteller. I’m also reading As Only Mr. Darcy Can by Laura Hiles because I love a good Pride and Prejudice variation tale.

B: Great choices!

What is your reading style?

D: I have books in pretty much every room of my house. At the same time, I have a Nook and a Kindle Oasis for the e-ink versions, and I have both apps on my iPad and my phone, so I can read in bed or when I’m out and about. In addition, I have the Glose app, so I can read my Harlequin books from the Reader’s Service. I get both the Love Inspired and the Love Inspired Suspense books each month. I have some audiobooks, but I will admit I sometimes have trouble with those when the narrator’s voice doesn’t match the way the characters sound in my head.

B: You have all your bases covered, well done! I’m drooling over your Kindle Oasis!

What is your next release and/or what are you working on now?

D: I am thrilled about my next release, Amish Country Threats, which will be out in June 2021. Anyone who read Plain Refuge may remember Levi Burkholder, the quirky ex-Amish best friend to my hero. Levi has gone home and rejoined the Amish community he grew up in. He’s broken by his time as a soldier, both physically and emotionally. I loved writing about Levi so much. He made me sigh and he made me laugh.

B: Soldier hero?! Yes, please!

What’s your writing style?

D: I’m mostly a panster. I start with my characters, then I write the first three chapters. Once those are written, I’ll write out a very loose and somewhat vague outline. When I write, I don’t write my chapters in order. I go back and forth, working from the beginning, then I go to the end, and I work inward. It’s not odd for me to stray from my outline in a major way. Such as switching who my villain is near the end of the book. So far, my editor hasn’t complained.
