Fans of Regency romance rejoice, it’s time to return to Hawthorne House! I’m delighted to share my thoughts on An Uncommon Courtship by Kristi Ann Hunter.
about the book
An Uncommon Courtship by Kristi Ann Hunter (Hawthorne House book 3)
Life for Lady Adelaide Bell was easier if she hid in her older sister’s shadow–which worked until her sister got married. Even with the pressure of her socially ambitious mother, the last thing she expected was a marriage of convenience to save her previously spotless reputation.
Lord Trent Hawthorne couldn’t be happier that he is not the duke in the family. He’s free to manage his small estate and take his time discovering the life he wants to lead, which includes grand plans of wooing and falling in love with the woman of his choice. When he finds himself honor bound to marry a woman he doesn’t know, his dream of a marriage like his parents’ seems lost forever.
Already starting their marriage on shaky ground, can Adelaide and Trent’s relationship survive the pressures of London society?
my thoughts
Although this is the third installment of the Hawthorne House series, it’s actually a good candidate for a stand-alone novel as well.
Ha! What am I saying? There’s no way I could read this book and not want to read A Noble Masquerade and An Elegant Façade but IF you’ve not read them yet and want to give Hawthorne House a try, you’d be safe from major spoilers should you decide to start with An Uncommon Courtship.
I don’t have brothers but if I did (and I lived in regency England), I’d want them to be just like Griffith and Trent Hawthorne. These gentlemen have proven themselves to be chivalrous and devoted brothers to Ladies Miranda and Georgina. Unfortunately for the Hawthorne brothers, they didn’t actually learn much about courting or marriage during the many hours they spent escorting their sisters.
Despite his charm, wealth, and good looks, Trent is a top-notch gentleman above reproach. The unwed ladies may be all atwitter over him but Trent has exercised all caution and care, thanks in part to the good example set by his older brother. Trent’s most endearing qualities are his chivalry, humor, innocence, faith, and purity of heart.
Quiet Lady Adelaide Bell is a little on the quirky side but she’s the last woman anyone would expect to need a marriage of convenience to preserve her reputation. Often forgotten and overlooked by her own family, she has wisely devoted her time to the quiet pastimes of reading and hunting mushrooms. Fortunately, marriage should give Adelaide some much-needed distance from her mother’s constant schemes.
The Hawthornes make me want to travel to regency England for a visit! I adore this fun, Godly, supportive, loving family! I am eagerly anticipating Griffith’s story set to release in September!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
