What is your favorite activity or hobby not related to books?
A: I enjoy making things from scratch, such as soap, or bread, or cheese. I’m not patient enough to perfect anything, but I love to fiddle. A project will catch my attention and I mull it over for days before actually trying it. Once I’ve given it a shot I usually drop the idea in favor of trying something new!
B: Fun! I’ve been known to dabble in DIY projects as well. I’ve made laundry detergent, body butter, bread, soft pretzels, bagels, a few small quilts, and a few furniture projects. The one thing that I’ve stuck with has been mixing our own taco seasoning instead of buying it prepackaged.
Share your inspiration behind Can’t Buy Me Love.
A: I really wanted to explore the idea of identity. Is what we think of ourselves important? Does it matter what other people think of us? Ultimately, our identity can only be found in how God views us. There are other themes and threads in the book, but that was where I started.
B: Yes, this is such an important topic.
What are some of the challenges you faced while writing Can’t Buy Me Love?
A: Ha! That is such a big question. While writing Can’t Buy Me Love, I was homeschooling (which I still do), we went through a pandemic, my husband started a new job, and we moved to a new home/state. My original manuscript deadline and our moving date was June 1st. To say it was hard to concentrate on writing would be an understatement! However, God is faithful and my husband is super supportive. I was able to meet all my deadlines.
B: Oh wowza! You’ve been on a rollercoaster!
What book(s) are you reading right now?
A: I’m working my way through Lynette Eason’s Elite Guardian series
B: Ooooo! These are on my tbr shelf! I read the first book then bought the rest of the series and I’m looking forward to reading them!
What is your next release and/or what are you working on now?
A: I’m finishing up on another book for the Deep Haven Collection titled Hanging By A Moment. I love this book because we get to redeem Colleen Decker (you may recognize the name from Susan May Warren’s book You Don’t Know Me) from her reputation as just a volleyball girl who dates bad boys. Colleen comes home to Deep Haven and figures out how to fit back into her old life. Colleen reminds me a little of Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Long-time fans of Susan May Warren’s Deep Haven will enjoy the many cameo appearances by beloved characters as Ella and Adrian struggle and wrestle with their attraction to each other and the pull of the quaint town. With humor and heart, this story reminds readers that no matter our circumstances, we can find healing and hope with a little neighborly help and a bit of faith.
