q&a
Describe yourself in five words.
D: Quirky, encourager, devoted, fun (I hope!)
B: Great qualities to have and/or aspire to!
Share your inspiration behind Abducted in Alaska.
D: I really wanted to write a book based on the Alaska/Yukon border and dedicate it to my amazing brother because he used to live there. I started brainstorming smuggling ideas and the storyline about a little boy escaping his captors came to mind. Plus, I also struggled with the situation my heroine goes through in the book and came out realizing God does know best.
B: That He does!
What book(s) are you reading right now?
D: A book on writing and A Vow So Bold and Deadly
by Brigid Kemmerer.
B: Oooo, that cover!
What is your next release and/or what are you working on now?
D: Lethal Cover-Up
releases in August. It’s based on the New Brunswick/Maine border and is about a tainted over-the-counter drug.
B: Love the fire! Very eye-catching!
What’s your writing style?
D: I’m a little bit of both a pantser and a plotter. I like to have a general storyline worked out before starting Chapter 1, but then let the story come to me as I write. My favorite part of the process? Setting up my characters – deciding on their backstory and picking what movie stars I picture them as.
B: Sounds like it’s working for you!
Do you have any writing quirks?
D: Colored pens! I write my to-do list on my calendar in a different color every day! Ha!
B: How how fun! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit with us, Darlene!
