Just Look Up with Courtney Walsh’s Lane Kelley

Are you ready to party, reader friends? Courtney Walsh is visiting the blog today to share a bit about the main character of her new release, Lane of Just Look Up. She will answer some questions for us and direct us to her launch party!

Meet Lane Kelley

Lane Kelley is a dark-haired workaholic interior designer who lives in a loft in Chicago with her dog Otis. She’s driven and ambitious. Lane was overweight growing up, so she works really hard to maintain her slender figure. Just Look Up is her story!

Q&A

Describe Lane of Just Look Up in five words

Courtney: Lane is…driven, ambitious, stubborn, secretly soft, broken

Beth: Awww, I think I’m going to like her a lot!

What do you want readers to gain from Lane’s story in Just Look Up?

Courtney: This story is really personal for me. It came out of my own difficulties, and I feel very passionate about the message and theme of this book. More than anything, I want readers to learn (and I want to learn) that we don’t need to strive.

We don’t have to constantly try and prove ourselves. We can (and should) rest and breathe and take time for ourselves every once in a while. When you’re a woman who loves her work, this is a hard lesson to learn!

I also hope readers will be inspired to put their phones down and connect—really connect—with the people in their real lives. I’ve learned the hard way that building on online presence means absolutely nothing if you’re not building a “real life” presence.

Beth: Oh, AMEN, sister!

Will readers be able to follow Lane’s story after Just Look Up?

Courtney: Brooks and Lane do show up in the next book in this series, Just Let Go. I’m so happy about that! I just couldn’t let them go.

Beth: YAY! One book never seems to be long enough!

What book are you reading right now?

Courtney: Nothing to Prove by Jennie Allen. Lane (and I) are both still learning!

Beth: Mmmhmmm… I hear ya! Boundaries is one I go back to again and again.

What is your go-to beverage?

Courtney: I recently discovered a mild sensitivity to coffee…and I gave it up…and then, in a moment of weakness, I discovered the Coconut Mocha Macchiato from Starbucks and I was a goner.

I love that drink and would prefer it over a full meal any day of the week!

Beth: Oh wow! I like smoothies well enough but not more than cheeseburgers! 😉

What is your comfort food?

Courtney: Sadly, nothing about food is very comforting for me. My food allergies are crazy! BUT, and I know you’ll think this makes me a weirdo (and it does) I LOVE LOVE LOVE roasted broccoli. I mean, I crave that stuff. 🙂

Beth: This makes me very sad for you, Courtney! ❤ Although this definitely works in your favor as I’m binging on cookies and ice cream…

About the Book

Just Look Up by Courtney Walsh

Just Look Up by Courtney Walsh

After tirelessly climbing the ranks of her Chicago-based interior design firm, Lane Kelley is about to land her dream promotion when devastating news about her brother draws her back home–a quaint tourist town full of memories she’d just as soon forget. With her cell phone and laptop always within reach, Lane aims to check on her brother while staying focused on work–something her eclectic family doesn’t understand.

Ryan Brooks never expected to settle down in Harbor Pointe, Michigan, but after his final tour of duty, it was the only place that felt like home. Now knee-deep in a renovation project that could boost tourism for the struggling town, he is thrilled to see Lane, the girl he secretly once loved, even if the circumstances of her homecoming aren’t ideal.

Their reunion gets off to a rocky start, however, when Ryan can’t find a trace of the girl he once knew in the woman she is today. As he slowly chips away at the walls Lane has built, secrets from his past collide with a terrible truth even he is reluctant to believe. Facing a crossroads that could define his future with Lane and jeopardize his relationship with the surrogate family he’s found in the Kelleys, Ryan hopes Lane can see that maybe what really matters has been right in front of her all along–if only she’d just look up.
