About the Author

Robin PatchenRobin Patchen is an award-winning multi-published author, but only because she can’t pursue her other dream.

If time and money were no object, Robin would spend her life traveling. Her goal is to visit every place in the entire world–twice. She longs to meet everybody and see everything and spread the good news of Christ.

Alas, time is short and money is scarce, and her husband and three teenagers don’t want to traipse all around the world with her, so Robin does the next best thing: she writes. In the tales she creates, she can illustrate the unending grace of God through the power and magic of story.

Five Favorite Vacations

Robin's lovely viewRobin: 1. As I type this, I’m sitting in a condo in Silverthorne, Colorado, resting my sore knees after three glorious days of skiing with my family. (The picture is the view from my chair.) After living in mostly flat and usually snow-free Oklahoma for over twenty years, I love being in the mountains, crunching in the fresh snow, and swishing down the slopes. At this moment, this is my favorite vacation ever.

Beth: My knees are aching just thinking about it but the view is gorgeous!!!

Robin: 2. I always enjoy visiting my husband’s parents and all our old friends in New Hampshire. I also love traveling to Utah to see my sister and her three kids. Visiting family is one of my favorite ways to spend vacation.

Beth: Yes! We love to visit family in the Pacific northwest!

ParisRobin: 3. Nature is great and family is awesome, but sometimes, I want to get a taste of different cultures. For me, one of the best places to spend a week is in a foreign city. My husband and I went to Paris a few years ago. I loved the museums and tourist attractions, but my favorite activity that week was sitting at sidewalk cafes and watching the city walk by. I could marvel at the Parisians—the kids on skateboards, the men in their scarves, the women in their stilettos—all day long. Though I think Paris may remain my favorite, there are a lot of foreign cities on my list of dream destinations.

Beth: Sounds exciting but I might be too much of a home body for travel beyond the States and Canada…

Robin: 4. My husband and I don’t get away as often as we’d like, but every year or so, we’ll take a weekend away. Generally, we head someplace within driving distance of our home—St. Louis, Kansas City, Tulsa, or Dallas. One year, we “vacationed” right in Oklahoma City and acted like tourists, though we were just ten miles from home. We’ve discovered that every city has something fun to do. Chicago is next on our list.

Beth: Creative, I like it! We staycation and do home improvement projects. 

Robin: 5. I like the beach as much as the next guy, but obviously, it’s not my number one vacation destination. I do love swimming in the ocean, riding jet skis, and snorkeling, especially if I’m with my family.

Beth: I admire your adventurous spirit, Robin!

What are you working on now?

Robin: I’m currently working on the third book in the Hidden Truths series. I’m enjoying writing this one, because I get to tell Samantha’s story—finally. She’s played the best friend and amateur computer hacker in the first two books.

Now that she’s the heroine, I’m learning all sorts of interesting things about her. The romance that first sparked in book 2 between Sam and Garrison, the former FBI agent, grows in this story.

Things aren’t all roses and champagne, though, as Garrison’s son has fallen into drug addiction. Garrison desperately wants to get his son the help he needs to be sober, but first they have to protect themselves from the dangerous people the teen has gotten involved with.

      1. I forgot to tell about my favorite vacation. That’s hard. My son and I went to Rome last year. It was amazing, and it was cool that it was just the two of us. Don’t tell the rest of my family, LOL.

  4. Janet! Happy to see you here, friend! I try to leave my red pen on the table when I’m reading comments, but it’s good to know you wouldn’t object, were I to see a rogue comma. 😉 Rome with your son? What a blast. I was in Rome when I was about 15 with my older sister–there’s a long story there. I didn’t appreciate all the history at the time, so I need to go back and see it all again. (The Colosseum was just so old!)

  5. Nancy, my 19-year-old son is in Hawaii at YWAM, and he keeps sending us pictures. He’s going on a mission trip to Alaska in March, so he’ll get to see two of the most beautiful places in America before his 20th birthday. I’m only a little jealous.

  7. My favorite vacation was Beijing, China. It felt surreal to be immersed in such a different culture with so much ancient history. It was amazing! I also like spending vacation time to visit family. I’m looking forward to reading your new stories, Robin!

  9. Ooh! A new author to check out! Hi Robin ????

    My favourite vacation was actually a choir tour I was on waaaaay back in 2000. We went to England *dreamy sigh* and I got to sing in some magnificent churches (think Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral), and see soooo many places! Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, London, the Lakes District, even the place that was the first exterior for Pemberly in the BBC Pride & Prejudice! I’ve been back three times since, but that trip still holds a special place in my memory.

    Once the kids are grown up, I want to do Europe; see all the places we’ve studied in history! Oh my goodness, you’d better stop me now or I’ll ramble on all morning!

      1. I used to be. Last overseas trip was Christmas 2008 with a three year old and twins at 11 months. All the way to Holland and UK for a family reunion. We had a great time, but we made a firm decision never to travel that far with smalls again! Exhausting! And now there’s five of them it’s faaaaar too expensive anyway. We’re saving the rest of the globetrotting for later in life. Except for CFRR 2020 of course ????

  10. I loved my trip to Germany, Switzerland, and Austria a few years ago. We were able to tour the house my grandfather where grew up in Switzerland during the late 1800s and early 1900s before he came to America. I also loved going to Scotland and England about 5 years ago. My daughter had lived there for 18 months about 20 years ago. She had kept in touch with a lot of people there. We were gone for 17 days and didn’t have to pay for any hotel rooms. It was so interesting staying with people and seeing their day to-day-life.

  12. Winnie, staying with locals sounds like a great way to go! I might desire a bit of privacy, but then, free is always good. 🙂 I went skiing in Europe twice when I was a kid, once to Switzerland and once to Austria. I thought Switzerland was the most beautiful place in the world, and I’ve still never seen anything as stunning. What a treasure to be able to see a bit of your family’s history!

  13. My vacation spot is Trinidad! That island is beautiful and the people are nice. Beaches and food are amazing. I will be leaving for Costa Rica next month so my answer might change.

  14. My favorite vacation was when my sister and I spent a week exploring Charleston SC. Loved touring the old plantations and Antebellum homes. There is so much history there.

  15. My favorite vacation is every June regardless where we are–although a beach with white sand is preferred! My girls are 17 and 20, and life gets so hectic, but our June vacation is when we slow down, forget about distractions, and focus on being a family. Counting down the days now! 🙂

  23. While in college, I took a trip to visit Portugal and northern Spain. Loved it! Especially northern Spain, it’s so green.
