Readers just can’t go wrong with Susan May Warren and her newest series, Montana Rescue is no exception! Wild Montana Skies is adventurous fiction at its best!
about the book
Search and rescue pilot Kacey Fairing is home on leave in Mercy Falls, Montana, twelve years after she joined the military to escape the mistakes of her past. With a job waiting for her as the new lead pilot of Peak Rescue in Glacier National Park, Kacey hopes to reconnect with the now-teenage daughter she sees only between deployments. What she doesn’t realize is that someone else is also back in town.
Ben King has been building his country music career since the day Kacey shut him out of her life. Now all of that’s on hold when his injured father calls him home to help run Peak Rescue until he’s fully recovered. It doesn’t take long, though, to discover his father’s ulterior motives as Kacey Fairing walks into the house and back into his heart.
With Mercy Falls in a state of emergency due to flash floods, Kacey and Ben are forced to work together to save lives. But when floodwaters turn personal, can they put aside the past to save their future?

My Thoughts
There’s so much to love about this book! Let’s start with the cover: Helloooo Ben (!!!) plus what’s not to love about a gorgeous mountain view?!!! Now, here are just a few of the story elements adore most: high school sweethearts, rags to riches, search and rescue, family relationships, hope, trust, healing, restoration… *sigh* my heart’s all a flutter!
Kacey has been trying to escape the pain of her past for a long time. She is talented, tough, courageous, and haunted by her experiences in Afghanistan. Kacey has doubts and fears about making the transition from “fun mom” to “full-time mom” but she finds comfort in the skies as lead pilot of the area search and rescue team.
Ben is only in town to help with search and rescue while his father recovers from an injury. The last person Ben expects to cross paths with after twelve long years without a word is his former flame, Kacey. His plans to get back to his music career as soon as possible pale in comparison to uncovering the truth of their shared past.
There is a whole slew of complex secondary characters that breathe authenticity into this story. The SAR team, Kacey’s parents, her daughter Aubrey, her best friend Sierra, Ben’s father, his music business associates, and his fans give the story depth and create a fictional hometown feeling that I can’t wait to visit again.
I requested the opportunity to read and review this book through NetGalley and Revell Reads. The opinions expressed are my own.
