q&a

What is your favorite activity or hobby not related to books?

D: A. My favorite hobby not related to books is singing/music. When I’m stressed, emotional, happy, sad… you get the drift. No matter the emotion, singing brings me joy. It can be with the radio or acapella. Indoors, outdoors, in a car. It doesn’t matter. I will sing praise and worship songs, Broadway tunes, emotional top 40 hits, popular Christian songs. I love them all.

B: My preferences are a bit more finicky but I do love listening to music.

What book(s) are you reading right now?

D: Right now, I’m reading Her Rocky Mountain Hope by Mindy Obenhaus, The Amish Teacher’s Gift by Rachel J. Good, and Texas Twin Abduction by Virginia Vaughan.

B: Sweet! Reading multiple books at once is the best!

What is your reading style?

D: I am an eclectic reader as far as formats go. I love reading print books (although I do prefer paperback to hardcover). I also have several different e-readers, as well as Kindle, Nook, and Glose apps on my smartphone. My one caveat is that I prefer to have all books in a series in the same format. It bugs me to have a series in multiple formats. I want all the books in one place. That way, if I finish one book, I can easily find the next one. I do tend to binge read a series.

B: Yes, all the books! I have the same hangups as you do!

What is your next release and/or what are you working on now?

D: I have several things I am working on right now. One project is a Love Inspired Suspense that will be out in 2021. One of the secondary characters from Plain Refuge is my hero. The other two projects are both novellas.

The first novella is an Amish romance that will be included in an indie-published collection titled Amish Christmas Miracles with 13 other authors. I am enjoying being part of such a talented group. The second novella is a story with two secondary characters from previous books, Sgt. Claire Zerosky (Sgt. Zee) and Sgt. Ryder Howard. This story will not be published by Love Inspired Suspense but will be a free digital book to my newsletter subscribers. It will be released sometime this summer. I am super excited about it because I have been wanting to give these two characters a happy ever after story for a long time.

B: Ooooo, aren’t you the busy writer bee?! Go, Dana!

What’s your writing style?

D: I do most of my writing at my dining room table. There’s enough room for me to pace as I talk to myself and try to figure out what comes next. Sometimes on the weekend when I am deep enough into the story to see where it’s heading, I like to go write at Barnes and Noble. I save this for extended writing blocks.

The Barnes and Noble closest to where I live has a little round table right outside the café. It’s right next to a large window. I will go to the café and order either Passion Iced Tea or a Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher (I think it’s a Starbucks drink). Then I will sit near the window and write. Every once in awhile, I’ll stop and go browse the shelves. Then I’ll return and write for another two hours.

B: The dining room table is my go-to as well! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit with us, Dana!
