five favorites

What is your favorite indoor activity?

S: READING! And I do love binge-watching a good TV show. But really, a day on the sofa or my porch swing reading is just heaven.

J: I love playing my guitars, electric, 12-string and six-string acoustics, they take me away.

D: I love board games. It’s so fun to learn the rules and figure out the best way to play. Also, you get to be around family and friends, which is nearly as much fun as winning! 😉 Board games have undergone a significant boom recently, expanding in options and creativity. That’s been really fun to experience. Particularly with my brother-in-law, who loves them even more than I do.

B: I’m with Susie on this one without a doubt!

Share your favorite childhood books or authors.

S: The Three Investigators books, an Alfred Hitchcock series written by Robert Arthur. It featured three young detectives, Jupiter, Pete and Bob who solved crimes (and occasionally met Alfred Hitchcock!)

J: C.S. Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia, is there any other choice? 🙂

D: As child, my favorite books were certainly the Redwall books by Brian Jacques. I loved the adventures and the descriptions of the food. When I got a little bit older, I became a big fan of Ted Dekker. It’s absolutely surreal to have him endorse my first book!

B: I fell truly and deeply in love with reading while spending a summer with the Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery. I’ve always been an eager reader but Anne touched my heart.

What is one of your recent favorite books or series?

S: Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson.

J: I just finished Beartown by Fredrik Backman. Wow, what a writer!

D: Recently I’ve been reading a lot of Brandon Sanderson, for the last few years he’s emerged as the preeminent fantasy author of our times. I love fantasy novels and when I have time to read for fun, usually choose something in the genre.

B: I love reading stories written by authors who are also avid readers.

Name your favorite outdoor activity.

S: I enjoy gardening, and biking, and walking….but my favorite outdoor activity is scuba diving!

J: Hiking with Darci, dirt biking with my sons. Water skiing, golfing. They’re all tied for my favorite!

D: I recently moved near the ocean and have been enjoying it every chance I get. I loved snorkeling and scuba diving, and just hanging out in the waves. Scuba diving feels very much like flying underwater. The mechanics of how you control your buoyancy is intriguing to me and being amongst all the fish feels otherworldly, in a good way.

B: Y’all are a much more outdoorsy bunch than I am! I love camping but my favorite aspect is reading or napping in the hammock (if the bugs or humidity aren’t too bad).

Share your favorite food or recipe or beverage or dessert or candy, etc.

S: I’m currently in love with bullet coffee!

J: Steamed artichokes with butter for dipping the leaves and when you get to the heart? Heaven!

D: Since the pandemic hit, I’ve had to become the cook whose food I want to eat. I’ve really been perfecting my skills. But amongst all the things I’ve tried, the perfect Queso Blanco has eluded me. Someday I’m going to get just the right blend of cheese and chilis. But until then I’ll just have to keep trying.

B: I’m a chocolate chip cookie addict. Susie, that just sounds dangerous. Jim, I’ll take your word for it. David, that is a worthy endeavor! Thank you all so much for taking the time to visit with us!
