J: indoor activity: Hot bath!

B: I can get on board with those! I’ve never been brave enough to try mint chocolate chip ice cream though… it’s green!

What is your favorite activity or hobby not related to books? 

J: Can taking baths be classified as a hobby? ? If yes, that’s my answer. Otherwise I love being outside in warm weather. Any time I can be near water—lake or river—that is my happy place.

B: Well, I think it should! Are you secretly a mermaid? 😉

Describe yourself in five words.

J: Perfectionist. Disorganized. (Yes, I know those are pretty much opposites, but they both happen in my life. ?) Observant. Emotional. Anxiety fighter.

B: Hey, I completely understand the disorganized perfectionist thing… your brain wants to do things perfect then the pressure becomes stress-paralysis and everything snowballs into chaos. 

Describe Her Hidden Hope in five words.

J: regret, stuck, young love, renewal, hope.

B: Ugh, we’re all feeling a little bit stuck right now, aren’t we?! Bring on the renewal and hope! (oh yes, we’ll take the young love, too!)

Share an exciting research or writing moment for Her Hidden Hope.

J: In one of the last scenes in Her Hidden Hope, Evan Hawke goes hiking and plans to camp out in the woods. He’s an outdoorsman, and this is his version of self-care. As I was writing the scene, I kept thinking, but what would it look like? And how could he have a protected fire? Colorado is notorious for forest fires. And then as my family was out exploring, we stumbled upon this scene that perfectly represented the one I was writing. It made my day!

B: What a great moment! Also, can I explore your woods, too?

What are some of the challenges you faced while writing Her Hidden Hope?

J: I didn’t have the conflict right when I started writing this book, and it ended up needing some hefty revisions. Oof. Those are never my favorite! But I do think the changes helped the story to be so much better.

B: A little twerking, a little polish, a little golden story!

What is your next release and/or what are you working on now?

J: There will be six books total in the Colorado Grooms series. Book 5 will be out in August, and I’m finishing up writing book 6 right now. It should be out next year.

B: Oh, happy day!!! More Colorado Grooms!!!

What’s your writing style?

J: I started out as a panster, but over the years, I’ve become more of a plotter. I’m still always surprised, though, by what comes out as I’m writing. So much of it isn’t planned. I enjoy writing at home—and I’m missing my alone time to do that during this crazy at-home-schooling season. ?

B: I think we all tend to evolve in our habits and preferences. As an all-the-time homeschooling mama, I hear you. We have thirty minutes of quiet time in the afternoon and it is my sanity. Thank you for chatting with us, Jill!
