The Tea Chest with Heidi Chiavaroli q&a

Hello, reader friends! Author friend Heidi Chiavaroli is joining us for a quick chat in honor of her new release The Tea Chest!

about the author

Heidi Chiavaroli

Heidi Chiavaroli began writing twelve years ago, just after Jesus had grabbed hold of her heart. She used her two small boys’ nap times to pursue what she thought at the time was a foolish dream. Despite a long road to publication, she hasn’t stopped writing since!

Heidi won the 2018 ACFW Carol Award for Debut Novel and is a 2018 Christy Finalist. Both her debut novel, Freedom’s Ring, and her sophomore novel, The Hidden Side, are 4½-star Romantic Times Top Picks. Freedom’s Ring was also a Booklist Top Ten Romance Debut.

Heidi loves exploring places that whisper of historical secrets, especially with her family. She loves running, hiking, baking, and dates with her high-school sweetheart and husband of fifteen years. Heidi makes her home in Massachusetts with her husband and two sons.

q&a

Share five favorites.

H: indoor activity – baking

food or dessert – lasagna and chocolate cake

place to visit – the beach

mode of vacationing – bed-and-breakfast near the mountains or water

character – Hadassah from Francine Rivers’s Mark of the Lion series

B: YES! We are kindred spirits, I knew it! Those are some great favorites!

What is your favorite activity or hobby not related to books?

H: Definitely hiking in the woods. In fact, many of my story ideas come while I’m out in the wild. 😉

B: I could definitely go for that, camping and hiking go hand-in-hand.

What are some of the challenges you faced while writing The Tea Chest?

H: When I came upon the idea of my character wanting to become America’s first woman Navy SEAL, I had no idea what that exactly looked like. I read tons of books on BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) training and watched a ton more movies and documentaries. My respect for those who have gone through this training (or even tried to) grew tenfold in the process, but it was definitely a challenge putting myself in Hayley’s shoes.

B: Oh, I’m sure! Wow, those folks are immensely dedicated!

What is your reading style?

H: Print, print, print! For me, part of the pleasure of reading is holding actual pages in an actual book.

B: It’s a bit addictive, isn’t it?!

What is your next release?

H: I’m super excited about my next Tyndale book, tentatively titled The Orchard House and set for release in 2021. It’s a split-time novel that explores some of the lesser-known facts of Louisa May Alcott—including her time as a nurse during the Civil War.

B: GASP! I’m also super excited!!! Thank you so much for visiting with us today, Heidi!

The Tea Chest by Heidi Chiavaroli

The Tea Chest by Heidi Chiavaroli

Boston, 1773
Emma Malcolm’s father is staunchly loyal to the crown, but Emma’s heart belongs to Noah Winslow, a lowly printer’s assistant and Patriot. But her father has promised her hand to Samuel Clarke, a rapacious and sadistic man. As his fiancee, she would have to give up Noah and the friends who have become like family to her—as well as the beliefs she has come to embrace.

After Emma is drawn into the treasonous Boston Tea Party, Samuel blackmails her with evidence that condemns each participant, including Noah. Emma realizes she must do whatever it takes to protect those she loves, even if it means giving up the life she desires and becoming Samuel’s wife.

Present Day
Lieutenant Hayley Ashworth is determined to be the first woman inducted into the elite Navy SEALs. But before her dream can be realized, she must return to Boston in order to put the abuse and neglect of her childhood behind her. When an unexpected encounter with the man she once loved leads to the discovery of a tea chest and the document hidden within, she wonders if perhaps true strength and freedom are buried deeper than she first realized.

Two women, separated by centuries, must find the strength to fight for love and freedom. . . and discover a heritage of courage and faith.

  3. Haven’t done it much in the past few years, but I have always enjoyed hiking in the woods. It’s especially fun in the spring to see all the trees starting to blossom.

I can’t imagine the hard work and dedication it takes to become a Navy seal! This will be interesting to read about.

  4. Hi, I myself prefer print copies there is nothing like holding an actual book, plus I have no idea where or how to even turn an iPad or a Kindle on. Your book sounds like a very good read! Thank you for the chance. Have a Great weekend. God Bless you.
