What is your favorite activity or hobby not related to books?
R: Traveling – I love experiencing new places and wandering around familiar ones to discover something new. I start to feel relaxed, and my mind seems to open up. I come up with solutions to problems I’ve been trying to figure out, and I also get new story ideas.
B: Wonderful! We enjoy traveling too!
Describe your current release with five words.
R: Uplifting – My characters encounter tough problems, but the stories are hopeful. My author’s tagline is Uplifting stories with a little bit of hope, faith, and love.
Family-related – The stories involve all sorts of families—the ones people are born into as well as the ones they create.
Emotional – You will smile and laugh. You may even cry a little.
Quick-read – You can read each story in 5 minutes or less, and most people can read both books in about an hour total.
Gift – You can get Volume 1 free on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Kobo, and Tolino.
B: I agree!
Why short stories? What appeals to you as a writer and what do you think most appeals to readers?
R: The stories in my collection are shorter than the average short story, and that’s intentional. Each story is 1000 words or less. The stories can be described as flash fiction stories. My flash fiction writing style is pretty similar to what you might expect from a fiction novel. Not all flash fiction is written that way. But I’m hopeful that the same readers who enjoy my flash fiction will also enjoy the novels I write in the future.
I initially started writing flash fiction because I wanted some short examples of my writing to put on my website. But I stuck with it, because I realized that I wanted my work to appeal to avid readers as well as those with busy schedules who only have small amounts of free time for reading.
B: This is my first experience with a flash fiction collection. What a great way to get a quick shot of story!
What is your reading style?
R: I love to hold books in my hands, but I’ve begun to think more about the environmental impact of printing books. I’ve just started reading on an Amazon Fire HD8. I love book covers, so I really like that I can still see the book cover in color. It took some time to get used an eReader, but I liked it so much that I’m giving away an Amazon Fire HD8 during my blog tour. Make sure to check out my giveaway.
B: It is an adjustment! I think I’ll always love both!
What are you working on now?
R: I’m working on a novel about a family that’s forgotten what family is about. I guess you can tell that I enjoy writing about families. Like the families in my new release, the family in my novel is beautiful yet complicated. Then again, aren’t most families?
B: Yes, I think we can all agree on that! Thank you so much for sharing with us, Rosey!
about the books
Beautiful, Complicated Family vol. 1 & vol. 2 by Rosey Lee
Beautiful, Complicated Family: Volume 1 and Beautiful, Complicated Family: Volume 2 explore the connections that can hold people together or tear them apart.
The stories in this collection capture struggles that are common in today’s families—secrets, mother-daughter conflicts, coping with aging family members, and a more subtle question of what makes a family.
The issues will seem familiar to you, but there are unexpected twists when you least expect them. The relatable characters and endings may pull at your heartstrings, so don’t be surprised if you laugh or cry along the way.
Like most families, the relationships in this uplifting collection consist of intricate elements. Sometimes things get messy, but it’s always beautiful.
Each volume contains five flash fiction stories (very short stories of 1000 words or less each). Read each story in about 5 minutes and get Volume 2 of the collection for free using a link within Volume 1.
Rosey Lee is hosting a giveaway for an Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet, 16 GB (US only) OR a $50 gift card to a vendor of the winner’s choice (Outside US only). There will be one winner (randomly selected on the last day of the tour via Rafflecopter).
