Wooing Cadie McCaffrey by Bethany Turner

As soon as I put down The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck, I wanted more! Wooing Cadie McCaffrey by Bethany Turner was literally a can’t put it down read for me.

about the book

After four years with her boyfriend, Cadie McCaffrey is thinking of ending things.

Convinced Will doesn’t love her in the “forever” way she loves him, Cadie believes it’s time for her to let him go before life passes her by. When a misunderstanding leads to a mistake, leaving her hurt, disappointed, and full of regret, she finally sends him packing.

But for Will, the end of their relationship is only the beginning of his quest to figure out how to be the man Cadie wanted him to be. With the dubious guidance of his former pro-athlete work friends and tactics drawn from Cadie’s favorite romantic comedies, Will attempts to win her back.

It’s a foolproof plan. What could possibly go wrong?

Bethany Turner is back with more of the heart and humor readers love. Anyone who enjoys a good romance or binges romantic comedies on Netflix will devour this delightful story.

my thoughts

I adore Cadie and Will! It’s too bad they’re fictional because I’d love to hang out with them in real life (and even more impressive, I believe my husband would enjoy socializing with them as well)! Of course, there’s the whole city-dweller/country-folk conflict we would have to overcome but I’m sure Will and Cadie need a break from all that hustle and bustle every now and then, who wouldn’t?!!

Cadie is unabashedly uninterested in sports despite being surrounded by the athletically inclined on a daily basis. I admire this trait for a couple of reasons. First of all, I can relate (fortunately God blessed me with a husband who has a “take it or leave it” relationship with sports) our culture often seems saturated with athletics and I just don’t get it. More importantly, Cadie is comfortable being herself, even when she has different interests and skills than those around her.

Will is a delightful underdog hero! He’s a bit nerdy and a low-key mister steady (possibly my favorite type of hero). Will puts forth a herculean effort to do things right including dragging his man’s man buddies along for the ride (which is hilariously entertaining). His frustration is as palpable as Cadie’s desperation as they engage in miscommunication and heartwrenching disappointment. Cadie and Will are believers and (like the rest of us) they occasionally mess up and learn to move on.

In addition to not being a sports fan, I’m also not well-versed in pop culture but for those who are, the many references are sure to further enhance your enjoyment of this unapologetically down-to-earth romantic comedy. I literally could NOT put this book down until I read every page. Sleep, food, these things are trivial when engrossed in a Bethany Turner novel. Priorities, people. Priorities.  This book will be joining the author’s debut among my all-time favorites and I enthusiastically recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.

  1. Great review! This is one of my favorite reads of the year, and I’m not a sports fan either, so I could totally relate to Cadie’s lack of interest in all things sports related! ?

  3. Not a sports fan. Used to be a Packer backer when we lived north of Green Bay.
This was a very funny read. I didn’t get all the pop culture references either but the macho guys helping Will was priceless! Great book!
