It is my great pleasure to introduce y’all to debut author Cynthia Roemer and her historical character Becky of Under This Same Sky. I feel a kinship with these ladies already because they are from the rural heartland of my home state!

Meet Becky Hollister

In the spring of 1854, seventeen-year-old Becky Hollister cherishes life on the vast Illinois prairie.

Her wheat-blond hair flows free and untamed as she labors alongside her father in the fields.

How she longs for the day she’ll share such tasks with a handsome husband.

But the Lord has different plans in Under This Same Sky.

Describe yourself in 5 words.

Becky: Strong-willed, determined, sentimental, caring, loyal

Beth: Excellent qualities to have!

What is your favorite go-to drink?

Becky: Outside of creek water and coffee, there’s really not many choices of beverage in rural Illinois in the mid-1800s. On occasion—weddings and such—we’ll have apple cider chilled in a stream. Can’t be beat.

Beth: Mmmm, apple cider!!! My favorite!

What is your favorite food?

Becky: I’m partial to corncakes smothered in sorghum, but really anything I don’t have to cook myself. Cooking in a Dutch oven over a fire is not something the Lord has gifted me with.

Beth: The only think I can manage in a Dutch oven is soup!

What do you want readers to gain from your story?

Becky: To assure readers that God can take our deepest hurts and bring about blessing if we allow them to draw us closer to Him. And that no matter what we go through in life, the Lord is there with us, cheering us on and offering strength and comfort.

Beth: Amen!

Will readers be able to follow you in future books?

Becky: Definitely. I make several appearances as a minor character in Book Two: Under Prairie Skies which is set to release in late spring, 2018. Book Three and beyond are still unwritten and my author has yet to tell me what role I’ll play in them.
