About the Author

Dana grew up in Illinois but now resides in rural Pennsylvania with her husband, three children, and enough animals to start her own petting zoo.

She is a teacher for the Deaf and hard of hearing during the day, and an author of romantic suspense by night.

She has been on the Publisher’s Weekly Bestseller List for religious fiction and was a finalist in the 2017 New England Readers’ Choice contest.

Her friends know to beware…anything they say may someday show up in a story.

Five Favorite Childhood Authors

Dana: Alexander Key I remember picking up Return from Witch Mountain one rainy weekend when I was in about fourth grade. I didn’t put it down until it was done. I loved it so much that I read it again. I can’t even remember how many times I read it.

When I was in sixth grade, my reading group read The Forgotten Door. Sigh. I was enchanted. I checked that book out several times that year. When I grew older, I ordered my own copy. I still have it, and probably always will.

Beth: Don’t you just love a good re-readable story?!!

Dana: L. M. Montgomery Emily of New Moon and Anne of Green Gables were my childhood heroines. I loved the spunky girls who rose above their circumstances.

They were fun, determined, and resourceful. I also loved the fact that they got their own happy ever after. Even as a girl, happy endings were important to me.

Beth: I have NOT read Emily of New Moon but I just picked up a copy of the series for my daughter and myself! I adore Anne!  ❤

Dana: David Eddings I found David Eddings in junior high when I checked out the first two books of the Belgariad series from our public library. His world building and the quirky characters drew me in immediately. I had to wait for book five to come out.

That was the first time I ever waited impatiently for the release of a book. It wouldn’t be the last. In high school, he continued the fabulous series with the Mallorean series. And the angst of waiting for each individual book to release started again. Oh, the pain!

Beth: Ah, the WAIT for new releases #readerprobs

Dana: Raymond E. Feist I started reading the Magician series on a lark after I realized that my friend’s cats were both named after characters from the series.

I figured if the series was memorable enough to name your cats after characters, it might be one I would enjoy. And I did. I still have the books relating the adventures of Pug and his friends.

Beth: That is the most interesting book recommendation story I’ve ever heard!

Dana: Jane Austen Okay, so technically, I didn’t read Jane Austen as a child. I was a young teenager. My sophomore English teacher had us read Pride and Prejudice. Then we watched the movie with Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul. I was in love.

I went on to read most of Jane Austen’s books, but I always went back to Pride and Prejudice. I re-read that book every year or so. And I read many of the variation stories it has inspired. I also love Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility.

Beth: Let’s count the teen years as the final phase of childhood, especially for Jane Austen!

Dana: Have you ever read a book and had one of the secondary characters tug at your heart? Well, that’s kind of how Plain Retribution got its start.

When I was writing Presumed Guilty back in 2014, I couldn’t get Miles Olsen out of my mind. He seemed so young and enthusiastic, but I just knew there was more to him than was seen in that book.

I knew that he had suffered heartbreak and that despite his actions in Presumed Guilty, I knew that he was a good man with steel in him. I let him grow up a bit during the net few books.

When I started plotting my Amish Country Justice series, I felt it was the right time to let him find his happy ever after. I loved writing about him! He had some goofy moments, but I thought he was one of my most loveable heroes.

Ten years ago while on rumspringa, Rebecca Miller and her friends were kidnapped and held captive…and now, living in the English world, she’s nearly abducted again. One by one her friends who once helped send their abductor to jail are targeted, and she is next…unless police officer Miles Olsen can stop a killer.

Deaf since birth, the only person on the force that Rebecca can communicate with is Miles, and he needs this case to redeem himself of past mistakes. When the relentless killer tracks them deep into the heart of Amish country, protecting Rebecca must be Miles’s sole focus. Because a mistake this time will cost something worth more to him than his job—the woman he’s falling for.

Tell us about your next release

Dana: Amish Christmas Abduction, book three in the Amish Country Justice series, will be out in stores in December. Paul Kennedy, LaMar Pond’s police chief, will finally get his own story. It’s been a long time coming!
