Allegra Spencer has been living a careful life. Her safe job as an accountant is bookended by going to church and the gym. Okay, sometimes the gym. Fine. She goes to church. And the coffee shop. She avoids risk at all cost, preferring to stay safe in her cozy condo. Until her accounting firm goes belly up and she’s out of a job.
Tyler Hawk had a glorious career as a star NFL tight end. He retired on a high note and now lives a second dream of owning his own business and leading others on extreme outdoor adventures. But he needs help with his books—and his heart. When Allegra takes the job, sparks fly.
It’s a case of safety zone versus danger zone, and in their minds, never the two shall meet.

My Thoughts
Grab life by the horns or stay on the porch? True, some ride the fence but this story is all about those horns and porches! Both of the main characters are firmly set in their ways when it comes to that line between safety and danger.
“He wants to give her the adventure of a lifetime. She just wants a latte.”
Despite our differences in the beverage department, I have to say, Allegra is my kind of gal. Yoga pants, books, overprotective-big-sister syndrome… we have a lot in common! You go, girl! Safe is comfortable and secure.
Tyler is determined to live life to its fullest by embracing a wide range of adventurous experiences. Absolutely, the Bible says “fear not!” So why not put on your protective gear and dive in, right?! Tyler thrives on one adrenaline rush after another.
Y’all, I want to say so much more about this story but no spoilers!!! The personality contrasts, banter, spiritual growth, and yes, adventure earned this story a special place in my reader-heart! ???? I am beside myself excited about this series and future work from this author.
I requested the opportunity to read this book through the author. The opinions expressed are my own.
About the Author
Mikal Dawn is an inspirational romance author, wedding enthusiast, and proud military wife. By day, she works as an administrative assistant for an international ministry organization, volunteers as a Key Spouse for her husband’s squadron, serves in her church’s library, and drinks lots of coffee.
By night, she pulls her hair out, wrestling with characters and muttering under her breath as she attempts to write. And drinks lots of coffee. When she isn’t writing about faith, fun, and forever, she is obsessively scouring Pinterest (with coffee in hand, of course!) for wedding ideas for her characters.
Mikal lives in Nebraska with her husband, Mark, their three children, and one ferocious feline who can often be found taking over her Instagram account.

Safety zone, of course. As boring as it is, my husband and all four kids are the same….

I’m one to tend to stick to the safety zone but with my amazing husband by my side I’m willing and we do seek adventure. 🙂
Thanks for the review. Can’t wait to read Count Me In. To win a copy would be great – thanks for the chance.

Thank you so much, Kay! My husband has brought me some adventure, too, and I’m so thankful for it. I used to do fun things, like zip-lining, when I was younger, but ever since having kids, I’m way more chicken. Ha! 🙂

I try some things once, like some roller coasters and water slides, decide that they terrify me, and never ride them again. I’m totally okay with being a chicken! I believe that God wants us to make responsible choices for our lives anyway, so I’m good with skipping the bungee jumping and skydiving! Lol

LOL! I actually LOVE roller coasters and water slides. But skydiving? Um…there was a time I *really* wanted to do it, then I had kids. I decided living is a good enough reason to *not* do it. That, and I don’t like pain.

I’m actually kind of surprised at how all of us here are safety zone people! lol!! I would have thought there’d be at least one adrenaline junkie. 😉 Look how smart we all are! LOL!

I think that’s a great way of putting it. I may not be an adrenaline junkie when it comes to things like skydiving or heli-skiing, but there are times when my adrenaline flows and I feel all reckless–like when speaking in front of a crowd. HA! (True story.)

I admit I usually (if not always) stick to the safety zone. So I’m sure I will be able to identify with Allegra. I can’t wait to read this story. I am anticipating major swooning.

I like the safety zone but occasionally I would be adventurous. God is teaching to me come out of my comfort zone.
