Jilted by Varina Denman

Jilted by Varina DenmanTitle: Jilted
Author: Varina Denman
Genre: Drama
Publisher: David C. Cook
Date: June 1, 2016

Lynda Turner has struggled with depression since her husband abandoned her and their young daughter fifteen years ago. Yet unexpected hope awakens when a local ex-convict shows interest. As long-hidden secrets resurface, Lynda must fight for her emotional stability and for a life where the shadow of shame is replaced by the light of love.

Jilted tells of a woman who has lost the joy of living, a man determined to draw her back toward happiness, and a town that must—once and for all—leave the past where it belongs. It is a gentle reminder that all things can work together for good.

My Thoughts

“If a book is well written, I always find it too short.” This quote from Jane Austen certainly applies to the Mended Hearts series because I hate to see it end! As I’ve said in my review of Jaded and Justified, I love the Trapp, Texas community.

Lynda Turner’s frustration with the church folks is understandable, I can’t imagine the pain of being falsely accused and then shut out of a congregation. Since learning the truth, a few of the members try to make amends and Lynda hesitantly begins to soften her heart. Lynda is a complex woman who has endured more than her share of trials, bitterness, apathy, and depression.

Clyde Felton has stirred my curiosity from his first appearance in book 1 of the series. It was obvious from his kind-hearted yet apprehensive behavior that there’s more to him than meets the eye. He is the underdog that I’ve continually found myself rooting for. Clyde is a natural protector and he goes out of his way to help and encourage Lynda as they make peace with the past and move forward into the future.

Jilted is a satisfying conclusion for what has become one of my favorite series. I’ll be honest though, I’m hoping for a spin off series! I would love to read more about Grady and watch Ruthie’s and Fawn’s families grow. Without a doubt I am looking forward to what Varina has in store for us next!

I received this copy of Jilted as a part of the Radiant Lit Jilted blog tour. The opinions expressed are my own.

  1. So glad to be on Varina’s team with you, Beth Erin! Mended Hearts is one of my very favorite series. Christian fiction doesn’t have enough of this type of writing to suit me, so I’m eager to do all I can to promote. And I love your suggestion about a spin-off series.

    1. That is my only disappointment, I want more Grady! 😉 I’m willing to be patient and see what other places and characters Varina has in store for us, though! It is a joy to encourage, promote, and recommend our favorite authors and meet new ones, isn’t it!
