Raising Readers Who Love Story

Hello, reader friends! As an avid reader mama bear, I am passionate about raising readers who love STORY! I also want to encourage y’all to read good books with your little readers so I’m sharing a list of stories our family loves. These books are featured on our family bookshelves and some are on the blog too! Y’all can get the latest scoop on these stories by clicking the covers below to hop over to the post (many of which I updated recently with new releases) or I’ve linked the others to Amazon for convenience but they are also available elsewhere!

words matter

When God Made Light by Matthew Paul Turner The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak All Things Bright and Beautiful illustrated by Katy Hudson - Faithfully Bookish review When God Made You When God Made the World by Matthew Paul Turner

Yes, these are picture books (well one of these things isn’t exactly like the others but it has the same target audience, roll with it) but more than that, they are filled with words that matter, timeless words, lyrical rhythms that draw us in, and promises of laughter and love! While there is a place for books with simple vocabulary, it’s not a place to linger over long while raising readers who love story!

life stories

Imagination Station 01 Voyage with the Vikings The Imagination Station 02 Attack at the Arena The Imagination Station 03 Peril in the Palace The Imagination Station 04 Revenge of the Red Knight Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder On the Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder 100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls 100 Extraordinary Stories of Prayer for Courageous Girls

In my humble opinion, short biographical stories and full-blown historical fiction can teach children more about our collective history than textbooks could ever hope to! Even when we throw in a little time travel, the emotional connection stories create fosters a love of history not found in lists of facts and events. By the way, book 25 of The Imagination Station series is available for preorder!

D. Smith Ember Rising by S. D. Smith Ember Falls by S. D. Smith Embers End by S. D. Smith The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis

We’re made to be creative creatures, just like our Creator, and imagination and fantastic adventures are the perfect fuel for young minds… as well as those young at heart. The next installment of the Epic Order of the Seven series and The Green Ember series are available for preorder!

  1. We recently read Good News! God Made Me! by Glenys Nellist and enjoy not only the message, but the bright and colorful art. I have always loved reading and passed this onto my girls.

  2. I think it’s so important to set the foundation for life long readers by them seeing you read as an adult and reading to them too. Faith based books are wonderful additions to home libraries.
