Code of Valor by Lynette Eason

about the book

What Detective Brady St. John really needs is a relaxing vacation. Unfortunately, just as the sun is setting on his second day at a friend’s cabin on Lake Henley, he hears a scream and races to rescue a woman from her would-be killer. When the killer escapes only to return to finish the job, Brady vows to utilize all of his many resources to keep her safe—and catch those who would see her dead.

Financial crimes investigator Emily Chastain doesn’t trust many people. And even though she let the detective who saved her life in on a few pertinent facts about why she was being attacked, there are some things you just don’t share with a stranger. Little does she suspect that the secret she is keeping just might get them both killed.

my thoughts

Don’t you just hate it when you try to get away for a nice relaxing vacation and work follows you there?! I could use a relaxing vacation right about now but I will never look at a lakeside cabin in the same way again (it’s a good thing we have a travel trailer or I’d be in trouble)!

Brady is a modern-day knight-in-shining-armor (or wetsuit, depending on the day and location of damsels in distress) and I love that hardwired protective personality in a hero. His drive to rescue and shield (another knightly pun, just for y’all) not only makes him a successful detective/dive team member but also looks good on the book boyfriend pros list!

Emily is a numbers gal (which I completely respect), cautious, and crazy smart (but doesn’t flaunt it). I love the way she strives to live out her faith and boldly shares it with others. Her painful past has taught her to muscle through difficulties in order to accomplish what is necessary. Emily is the kind of character readers hope and cheer for!

The diving aspects of this story are completely fascinating but most of all, I am loving the St. John family dynamics! Getting to know each sibling from their own perspective and the perspectives of the others give readers a deeper understanding of every character within the series. It’s a good thing I don’t have to pick a favorite St. John because I can’t! I have to highly recommend this entire series so far and encourage you to binge read them all!

I borrowed an ebook of this title through a paid subscription service. The opinions expressed are my own.
