my thoughts
I am definitely having a time with the swoof for this one, it’s just too good for my words! Lori Benton’s vivid storytelling brings history to life in a way that fills every sense and emotion. Many Sparrows is a powerful soul-stirring story! The author completely engages readers by embracing the conflicted atmosphere of this period at an intimate level and unfolding the tale from different angles and perspectives.
Clare Inglesby’s plight downright ripped my mama-heart out but OH, how I admire her fierce determination. She focuses the power of her motherly love into action despite the seemingly insurmountable odds against her. Clare’s character is one who readers will easily relate to and become invested in!
Jeremiah Ring is a larger than life, enigmatic figure from the moment he appears on the page. His past and his relationship with the Shawnee tribes simply adds to his appeal! Jeremiah is a protective and loyal man of faith and his character is loaded with many layers.
Many Sparrows is packed to the brim with delightful secondary characters, a solid faith message, and fascinating historical aspects of colonial life. Themes of perseverance, forgiveness, adoption, and hope are woven through this riveting storyline. I highly recommend this book and it has earned a place on my all-time favorites shelf.

One of my favorite reads of the year, but Lori’s books are consistently forever favorites. I loved Jeremiah Ring, his faith, his insight, his patience, his courage, his loyalty . . . . . what a story; and set during one of my very favorite time periods and with mention of one of my very distant cousins; Mary Draper Ingles.
