Five Colonial Era Favorites

Amber: Beth!! I am just tickled pink to be on your blog, thank you so much for having me! I love your idea about the favorite five. Who doesn’t love talking about their favorite stuff??

Well, for those who know me this won’t come as much of a surprise, but I am completely obsessed with the Revolutionary War era. It’s my ultimate favorite so I will be discussing my favorite five about my not-so-secret obsession.

Beth: I’m a fan of this era, too! So excited to see what you came up with!
Amber: So here in no particular order, are my five (so hard to narrow it down!) favorite things about the Colonial Era!

I know it’s not everyone’s bag, but man, I LOVE (with a capital L-O-V-E) the clothes!!! *swoon* Yes, even the guy clothes. Give me a hero in a greatcoat, with his hair tied back under a cocked hat and I’m done for. LOL

Beth: Your 1700s fashion pinterest board blows me away! What a collection!

Amber: The religious fervor of the time was wonderful. Many people recognized they needed to turn even more to God, and they did. I find that so inspiring.

Beth: I love a genuine revival! People need Jesus!

Amber: THE MUSIC! I have been a * huge * fan of Baroque music ever since I was young. It fits so perfectly with the era, too—the minuet and Allemande wouldn’t be so fun to dance without such a soft, beautiful sound to accompany you.

Beth: The dancing sounds fun as long as the footwear is comfortable!

Amber: My next favorite is hard to classify in a few words. One thing I love is that despite its different manners, confining (at times) social standards for women, the existence of slavery, etc., Colonial Americans were a very forward-thinking people.

They realized that changes needed to be made and went about to make them happen. Even though huge shifts don’t happen over night, so many of our progenitors were fearless in their attempts to break off from what they felt was holding them back—which leads me into the last reason I love this era so much…

Beth: Absolutely, they were thinkers and yet not afraid of hard work and sacrifice.

Amber: More than anything, I love freedom and liberty. I love that our founders (and I’m not just talking about our Founding Fathers—I’m talking about everyone who loved America and wanted freedom) were willing to do whatever it took to give their posterity the opportunity to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.

Beth: May we never forget the sacrifices of those who came before us!

Amber: Phewf! It’s really tough to narrow it down to just five… I could talk about the army (both the Rebels and the Redcoats!), the food, the language, the architecture, the art…the actual Revolutionary War itself! Oh my goodness, I just don’t know where to stop, so I’m glad Beth chose a number for me. 😉

Beth: I feel exceptionally patriotic right now! ????
