An Awakened Heart by Jody Hedlund

New York City
May 1857
“Stop prostituting yourselves and run to the loving Father who will embrace you with forgiveness.” Reverend Bedell’s voice rose above the sniffles and muffled weeping of the women crowded on trestle benches of Centre Street Chapel.
Every time I read a Jody Hedlund book, I realize it has been way too long since I last read a Jody Hedlund book! I love the way she weaves history and fiction together.
An Awakened Heart takes readers through the streets of the poorest immigrant neighborhoods and into the lives of those called to minister to them. I adore this story and I’m especially excited to find out where the orphan train series is going to take us!

My first line is from Candice Curry’s autobiography A CON MAN’S DAUGHTER: “I could hear my name being called, but I was stuck somewhere between a dream and reality.”
But the line that made me keep reading is this one, a thought Candice had as a 13-year-old: “I strained to hear God’s voice in my ear but only heard Satan whisper how much he loved me.”

This book is on my Kindle waiting to be read. 🙂 I don’t think I have read anything by this author….do these books need to be read in order? Also, I love her purse!

Oh Heather! If you love historical fiction you MUST read Jody Hedlund!!! This is the prequel to her newest series so you’re good to go! Most of her series are actually stand alone novels with a common thread so you can read them in any order without spoilers 😀

I too have this waiting on my kindle, which is charging in the other room right now, so I can’t get to the first line of the book I’m reading. I’ve shared from the books around me before. I will just say, Happy Easter Weekend.

Rebecca locked the car door behind her and glanced at the people moving around her. The town might have been authentically medieval, but the visitors certainly weren’t.
A Timely Romance by LeAnn Mathis
The first line didn’t give much info, so I added the second. It’s a time travel novel. 🙂

How interesting! You’ll have to let me know if you love it! I’ve not read very many good time travel stories.

I have this on my Kindle and now I’m even more anxious to read it! 🙂 I shared the first line from “A Hope Unseen” over on my blog, but I thought I’d share with you the first line from what I’m reading right now: “Lia Promise stared at the man across the table from her.” It’s from “An Informal Affair” by Heather Gray and is one of the stories in the Love At First Laugh collection which I have been reading my way through between novels this month.

YAY! Me too!!! I’m ready to start Heather’s novella just as soon as I get a little lull in the schedule.

I’m currently reading Dana Mentink’s new Love Inspired Suspense title Dangerous Testimony (sent to me by the author):
“A loud pop. The flash of the gun. A man’s body crumpling to the unforgiving cement.”
A little extra, for the added drama 😉

I’ve not read any of Dana’s suspense but her doggy inspired series is on my favorites shelf! Thanks for the extra lines 🙂
