Can his safe haven be enough for her?
Emma Meadows never imagined that sticking to her principles against an act of corruption by a New York senator would cost her her job as VP of communications. Heartbroken, she retreats to her cottage in the Adirondacks to lick her wounds and, in the process, rescues an injured dog that only Josh Whitmore can save.
The veterinarian works diligently to bring dog and woman back to full fighting form, until allegations against the senator become more serious. Seeing Emma’s reaction to the increasing pressure, Josh realizes that inevitably she’ll find a way back to the top…and he’ll likely lose her for good.

My Thoughts
This author was recommended to me by a trusted friend with similar bookish tastes (Thank you, Carrie at Reading is My SuperPower). While I had no doubt that I would enjoy this book, it actually exceeded my expectations and I was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of emotion this story evoked.
Emma retreats to her mountain cottage for healing and sanctuary after being personally and professionally tossed aside in NYC. Despite her own brokenness, she goes above and beyond the call of duty to save an injured dog. Life has tossed her around a bit but Emma still has spunk! She is a woman of integrity and determined to do what is right in every area of her life.
Small town veterinarian Josh is a natural born healer. He is observant and mindful of those around him. Josh’s occupation provides the added bonus of several furry friends for our story. His patience and attentiveness to Emma’s emotional wounds reveals the depth of his compassion. Josh repeatedly puts her best interests ahead of his own and stands by her through each challenge.
The tender care for animals was seamlessly woven into the lives of the characters as they experienced sweet attraction and edge of your seat suspense. I look forward to reading more titles from this author.
I requested the opportunity to read and review this book through Prism Book Tours. The opinions expressed are my own.

I agree, too, Jamie! We had to say goodbye to our last three dogs over a couple of years when our current pups, Harley and Logan, decided to adopt us. In case you’re interested, here’s a post from 2014 about how they came into our lives: http://heartwarmingauthors.blogspot.ca/2014/09/a-dogs-life-by-kate-james-and.html Since they had only lived in cages until that point, it wasn’t entirely smooth sailing at the start, but it was all well worth it!
