five favorites
favorite outdoor activity

N: Horseback riding. The first time I ever got on the back of a horse (aside from the carousel variety) it was my 54th birthday. I thought I was too old to ever have the chance to ride, but was convinced to give it a whirl. It was a crazy weekend of firsts, but I loved it.
The following year I bought my own horse, a golden Palomino, who takes wonderful care of me, and is actually short enough that I can almost get up on her by myself. Thankfully, I’ve got a great guy who doesn’t mind giving this short girl a boost.
B: That’s wonderful, Nancy! Good for you! I’ve only gone riding a time or two. Horses are such majestic creatures.
favorite food
N: I have never been able to say no to a Chocolate Iced Kreme Filled Krispy Kreme doughnut. They are my kryptonite.
B: Not a bad way to go!
favorite time to write
N: I love to write late at night when the world is quiet.
B: I spend a lot of time working at night too! I can hear myself think!
favorite book quote
N: My favorite quote in Christmas Angels is the first line.
Everything happens according to the timing of our life, and no two lives are the same.
That one line inspired this story. The things we dream, hope, wish and pray for sometimes drive our behavior to the extreme. Sometimes we just have to be patient, maybe even not try so hard to make that thing we want so badly to happen in our own time. In the right time, it will happen in the way it is meant to happen.
Liz is chasing a dream that she’s wanted since she was a young girl. It’s many years later before another chance lands in her lap. No, the circumstances weren’t perfect, and her friends didn’t rally and encourage her, but she knew what she needed to do. She trusted the journey.
What is right for someone else, may not be right for me. Believing that and owning it opens even more doors to those things we are truly meant to do, be, experience.
B: I love this line so much! We featured it just a couple of months ago for First Line Friday!
favorite secondary character
N: Secondary characters are so fun to write. In Christmas Angels, Elvis, Matt’s big dog has stolen so many readers hearts already. He was a blast to write because my own dog, who we call Large Sarge, was the inspiration for that character. Sarge is now three-years-old and weighs 180-pounds. Yes, when he stands on his hind legs he’s as tall as my fiancé, 6’1″!
B: Oh, I love critter characters, especially dogs! Large Sarge sounds like a lot of dog and I bet he’s a big sweetheart!
What is your next release and/or what are you working on now?
N: I’m currently busy with a few projects.
I just wrapped up my 2020 Christmas novel for St. Martin’s Press. We’ll be announcing the name and cover at the first of the year. Originally, we’d titled this novel A Promise at Christmas, but we’re reworking that now.
The Secret Ingredient, a novel released by Hallmark Publishing in 2019, was optioned by Crown Media and will air on Hallmark Channel around Valentine’s Day 2020.
I’m writing the novelization of the third Christmas in Evergreen story, too! I wrote the first two and now Christmas in Evergreen: Tidings of Joy is coming my way. I love those “red truck” movies. It’s so different writing a book for a movie that has already been made. I don’t have the freedom of building my own town, instead, I have to find creative ways to help the reader re-experience what they’ve seen in a way that is just as beautiful as Hallmark created it. No easy task!
B: Sounds like you’re blessedly busy, Nancy! We so appreciate you taking the time to share five of your favorites with us and updating us on your writing!
about the book
Christmas Angels by Nancy Naigle
Publisher: St. Martin’s Griffin
Genre: Contemporary Christmas
Release Date: October 15, 2019A heartwarming Christmas story filled with the magic and miracles of the holiday season by USA Today Bestselling author, Nancy Naigle.
Growing up, Liz Westmoreland dreamed of taking over her grandparents’ inn located in the small mountain town of Antler Creek only for it to be sold before she ever got the chance. While browsing the internet, she stumbles upon a listing for what looks to be the picturesque inn and it’s set to go to auction. Liz places a bid, and by a miracle, wins the auction. But when she gets there, she finds the property in significant disrepair.
When Matt Hardy narrowly lost the inn and property that butted his land, he just hoped it wasn’t another city slicker coming to make matters worse after the previous owners gutted the place for an art gallery. But the minute he recognized the sweet, freckle-faced girl from his childhood and heard her plans to reopen the inn, he jumps at the chance to help his childhood crush restore a place where he made so many fond memories.
While working on repairs, Liz and Matt discover her grandmother’s collection of angels in one of the cabins. When the angels start mysteriously showing up all over the inn, she begins to look at them as reassurance—that restoring the inn is what she’s meant to do. But when an accident leaves Liz feeling like she made a mistake, will Matt—and the residents of Antler Creek—be able to show Liz that she’s found a home? And possibly true love as well?
