It is my pleasure to share my review of Australian historical romance, Carry Me Away by Dorothy Adamek, book 2 of the Blue Wren Shallows series! Be sure to check out Dotti’s previous visit which includes a quick q&a!
about the book
Carry Me Away by Dorothy Adamek (Blue Wren Shallows book 2)
Inspired by the incredible true story of an Australian shipwreck and those who survived to tell the tale.
When the Black Swallow sinks off the Australian coast in 1877, Australian midshipman Tom Darley rescues English passenger Ada Carmichael from the disaster that claims her entire family. News of the only two survivors enchants the world, but Ada needs to hide before secrets and old foes find her. Tom is chasing big dreams of a crumbling house he will convert into a small hotel ~ but the promising start he’s acquired now sits at the bottom of the sea.
Inexplicably entangled, Ada and Tom lean upon each other to make sense of the tragedy that’s displaced them. But when scheming journalists observe their affection they drag Tom into life-altering riches and a news-worthy romance he cannot resist. So he arranges for Ada’s protection where only he might find her ~ the quiet Phillip Island farm of his friends Shadrach and Finella Jones.
And that’s where real trouble finds them. When heroic promises fail to shelter, and love refuses to be silenced, only surrender will pluck Ada and Tom from where life has wrecked them.

my thoughts
Ordinarily, I’d say that a love story between the only two survivors of a shipwreck is completely unbelievable. However, the historical fact that two real people actually did beat the odds of survival coupled with the enticing detail of their companionable ages makes a fictional account of what might have happened simply irresistible for the romantic in me!
Dear Tom flawlessly embodies the role of the chivalrous hero. While he certainly owns his share of blunders, Tom is perfectly wonderful at heart. Practical Ada is understandably hesitant to jump into a romantic attachment while grieving her numerous losses. Her pragmatic take on the future leaves little room for happily ever afters. Fortunately, with the addition of a bit of patience, Tom is well-equipped for the task of sweeping a certain reluctant lady off her feet and winning his way into her heart. Ada may say leave me alone with her words but her heart cries Carry Me Away!
This story and its predecessor are brilliantly written and completely engaging! I highly recommend this second installment of the Blue Wren Shallows series and encourage readers to first pick up Carry Me Home to avoid spoilers. I’m eagerly looking forward to future works by Dorothy Adamek!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
