Happy Friday, reader friends! Today’s featured title is one my daughter and I have both enjoyed! Check out the first line and my review of Always by Jody Hedlund below, then open the book nearest you and share the first line!
Bookish bargains have been updated on the shop page! I only share books from authors I am familiar with or those that have been recommended to me by a well-read friend.
Always by Jody Hedlund

“Another sip, Your Majesty,” I pleaded, holding out the golden chalice of raspberry-leaf tea.
my thoughts
As much as I love Jody Hedlund’s stories, I initially borrowed this title not for myself but for my daughter (since my calendar is completely packed). However, the aforementioned daughter offered to read part of the story aloud to me as I was driving and then I was hooked. I can’t say no to well-written novellas, y’all!
The young adult genre isn’t usually one I reach for and, as I said, I wasn’t exactly “sitting around with nothing to do” and yet I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I highly recommend Always to all fans of medieval fiction and I plan to purchase a print copy as soon as the book budget allows!
I borrowed this title through the Kindle Unlimited program. The opinions expressed are my own.
The Lost Princesses series
Always by Jody Hedlund may be a novella but it sure packs a quotable punch! I’m sharing three of my favorites on Instagram! Go to Hoarding Books to find more FLF bloggers!
Happy Friday! I am sharing the first line from Teach Me to Love by Kari Trumbo over on my blog, but I just finished Unwrapping Hope by Sandra Ardoin. Here is the first line:
Pheobe Crain tightened her hold on her daughter’s hand in case she got the notion to bolt down the street toward the Riverport train station.

That always make a mama’s heart race, doesn’t it?! Even the possibility of a bolting child kicks my pulse of up a notch or two.

I shared the first few lines of my current read Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron on my blog. But, here, I’ll share the first lines of a book I recently finished – City of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty.
“He was an easy mark.
Nahri smiled behind her veil, watching the two men bicker as they approached her tall. The younger one glanced anxiously down the alley while the older man – her client – sweated in the cool dawn air. Save for the men, the alley was empty; fajr had already been called and anyone devout enough for public prayer – not that there were many in her neighborhood – was already ensconced in the small mosque at the end of the street.”
Hope you enjoyed that. Have a great weekend!

I chose chapter two of One Final Breath by Lynn Blackburn:
Anissa brought up the rear of their somber crew as they each nodded at Bill, the security guard in the Carrington Memorial Hospital emergency department.
I loved all three books in this series.

Sorry I didn’t get around yesterday! The book I shared on my blog this week was In the Shadow of Denali by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse but I am now currently reading Out of the Ashes which is the next book in the series. I just recently started but I’ll share the first line from chapter 2 here: “Gazing down at the coffin that housed his father’s physical body, Jean-Michel counted the scoops of dark soil as they hit the lid and began to cover its surface.” Hope you have a great weekend with plenty of quality reading time! 🙂
