The cheery Christmas music, the gingerbread-scented air freshener, and her foster mom’s happy humming couldn’t paint over the festering in Isla Laird’s heart.

my thoughts

The Hope of Christmas Past is a sweet and inspiring afternoon read filled with moments of laughter and sprinkled with happy tears. Aside from the tastefully executed time-slip element, Isla’s story reads much like an encouraging coming of age story. The author’s portrayal of this young lady’s heart and jumbled emotions are genuine and relatable. Messages of hope, belonging, and love soothe the bittersweet longings for loved ones out of reach or situations beyond our control. What a wonderful story for young ladies to enjoy with their sisters, mothers, and grandmothers! This story reminded me to cherish the peace God graces us with as believers. I highly recommend this story!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.

  1. Happy Friday! Today I’m sharing the first lines from Within My Heart by Tamera Alexander over on my blog. Here, I’ll share the first line from a book I recently read and enjoyed, Sara’s Gift by Kimberly Rose Johnson: “I have no idea who or what should get Charity’s fifteen hundred dollars.”

  2. Happy Friday!

Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from The Bright Unknown by Elizabeth Byler Younts. Oh my word is this book amazing!!! Currently, I am reading Once Upon a Christmas: Contemporary Retellings of Timeless Tales. It’s a really fun Christmas collection of novellas. I’ll share a line from that book here.

“Being escorted out of the firm by building security wasn’t on his to-do list, but he could write it in later … and cross it off.”

LOL! This book is filled with sweet and sassy stories. I am loving it so far.

Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading!

  3. It was the end of the world.
Sophia Jackson strained to see something, anything that looked like civilization, but the desolate landscape was no more than brown dirt and scrubby bits of green plants that stretched all the way to the horizon.

Asia Stratton’s gaze remained transfixed on the lifeless eyes staring back at her.

  5. I love this book cover. And I’m about ready to start reading some Christmas novels. I’m sorry I’m so late this week.
