At Love’s Bidding by Regina Jennings

I’m jumping right into the middle of the Ozark Mountain Romance series with book 2, At Love’s Bidding by Regina Jennings!

about the book

At Love’s Bidding by Regina Jennings

At Love's Bidding by Regina JenningsAfter helping her grandfather at their Boston auction house, Miranda Wimplegate discovers she’s accidentally sold a powerful family’s prized portrait to an anonymous bidder. Desperate to appease the furious family, her grandfather tracks it to the Missouri Ozarks and makes an outlandish offer to buy the local auction house if they promise not to sell anything until he arrives.

Upon their arrival, however, they discover their new business doesn’t deal in fine antiques, but in livestock. And its manager, ruggedly handsome Wyatt Ballentine, is frustrated to discover his fussy new bosses don’t know a thing about the business he’s single-handedly kept afloat.

Faced with more cattle than they can count–but no mysterious painting–Miranda and Wyatt form an unlikely but charged partnership to try to salvage a bad situation getting worse.

my thoughts

I just love Regina Jenning’s quirky characters and the tricky situations they get themselves into. Miranda noticed her grandfather’s growing confusion but she doesn’t say anything because she doesn’t want him to be embarrassed. This is exactly what a good granddaughter should do, right? Besides, it’s never caused any trouble for her family’s upscale auction house… until now.

Since Miranda’s grandfather is determined to save his auction house, his granddaughter is recruited to “accompany” him. This is a nice way of saying she’s in charge of keeping him out of trouble AND recovering the painting which he inadvertently sold! Well, you know how grandparents can be, grandfather makes all the arrangements and off they go.

Things get really interesting when they arrive in the little Ozarks community and have their first encounter with disgruntled Wyatt. He isn’t laughing when he learns the livestock auction barn he manages has been sold to a Boston family more accustomed to dealing with antiques, jewels, and paintings. Wyatt has poured his life into his father’s dream of owning the place and it’s really no surprise that he doesn’t take too kindly to the outsiders who don’t know the first thing about livestock or life in the Ozarks.

No one knows who to trust and the stress of the whole situation is enough to give anyone an apocalyptic fit! Wyatt and Miranda are very entertaining and there are several colorful secondary characters as well. Overall, it’s a nice light-hearted mystery with a healthy dose of romance.

I received this book from the publisher through TBCN. The opinions expressed are my own. This review originally posted on 3/24/16.

  1. I’ve read this book also. It was a fun book to read!
My family is always laughing and having a good time when we get together. Sometimes it’s difficult to be living 12 hours away (by car) from them. But we do go visit as often as we can.

  2. Good morning Beth and Regina! This is a fun book as are Regina’s other books!
Oh yes, my mom, sister and I have great times together and when we gather with extended family (who live 5 hours drive away) we have even more fun.
    Blessings, Tina

  3. I haven’t read this book yet, but I hope to read more of Regina’s backlist of books. She has such a great sense of humor. I loved For the Record.

It can get pretty crazy when my family gets together. We can talk and laugh for hours about things that happened in the past.

  4. I have read this one and enjoyed it very much. I live in the Ozarks so it was very much fun to read. It was just great!
