What inspired you to write Sea Glass Castle?

T: There is a double meaning in the title, and both meanings are what inspired this book. As you can imagine, a castle—aka life—made out of glass is considered extremely fragile, and if not enough care is taken, it will shatter. The beauty of sea glass is that it’s actually formed from broken pieces that have gone through a turbulent journey in the ocean. It’s perfectly symbolic for Sophia and Weston’s story.

B: We’re made to be creative and share our gifts, I completely agree!

What role does faith play in this story?

T: I honestly feel like my faith always plays an important part in every story I tell, whether I draw it from inspiration or struggles. I’m human and stumble a lot more than I let on. The stumble I drew inspiration from for this story is having the mind-set of trying to be everything to everyone. It’s not even feasible, and I’ve gotten lost a couple of times while trying to do it. I took that struggle and made it Sophia’s. She tries to maintain the facade of having a perfect marriage, home life, and career. Of course, fissures of truth get past her weakening facade and cause life as she knew it to shatter. She then has to brave rebuilding a new life, being mindful not to make the same mistakes again.

B: Amen!

What lessons or truths do you hope people take away from Sea Glass Castle?

T: The Bible verse for this book holds a lot of the truths I wanted to share with people. “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).

B: Absolutely! This is one of our first memory verses for the kids.

What was the most difficult part of writing this story?

T: It was devastating to put Weston through tragedies that I never want to face myself. It broke my heart to have to break his, but it had to be done for the story. It was quite rewarding to give him a second chance at not only love but also career and family.

B: Yes! Thank you for including that thread.

As an author, what did you particularly enjoy about writing this story?

T: It had to be creating the zany characters: Doc Nelson and Weston’s brother, Seth. Those two cracked me up with the shenanigans they got into. They’re both a great contrast to Weston’s serious role of being a doctor and grown man. I cannot wait for the readers to meet them. Seth would so own it as the lead hero in a book . . .

B: Oh, without a doubt! Thank you for chatting with us, Tonya!

Sea Glass Castle by T. I. Lowe

Sophia doesn’t think there’s any hope for starting over until an unexpected trip to the pediatrician’s office gives her a second chance after all.

Dr. Weston Sawyer knows all about lives shattering into millions of pieces. His own all but ended when a truck driver fell asleep at the wheel and barreled head-on into his pregnant wife’s sedan, killing her instantly and leaving Wes with a soul so wounded that it has refused to heal. He packed up and left swampy southern Alabama for South Carolina with the hope of fading into the sleepy coastal town of Sunset Cove. Instead, feisty brunette Sophia Prescott will have him braving something different and entirely unexpected.

If Sophia and Wes can take the leap to give love another try, they just might find that hope has a way of coming back around and weaving into one’s heart.

my thoughts

Sea Glass Castle is the delightfully satisfying conclusion of the Carolina Coast series. Everything about this book from the packaging to the characters to the plot and heart of the story exudes excellence. Consider this my standing ovation for the author and publishing team, bravo!

The second chances and redemption in this story had my heartstrings looped in pretty little bows. The entire cast of characters ebbed and flowed in a tide of united love and protection. My reader heart soared as Weston, Sophia, and especially little Collin were wrapped in the genuine cares and prayers of their friends, family, and community. If the Sunset Cove community wasn’t fictional, I’d be packing up my family for the coast because we could all use a support system that includes men like Lincoln Cole and August Bradford.

I said it before and I’ll say it again, T.I. Lowe gently probes the heart with authenticity, hope, and humor. The quintessential coastal town of Sunset Cove is an irresistible setting for this heartwarming and masterfully delivered series. I highly recommend Sea Glass Castle by T.I. Lowe and the entire Carolina Coast series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. Additionally, as a co-owner of JustRead Publicity Tours, LLC, I received compensation from the publisher and/or author to coordinate a promotional tour for this title. The opinions expressed are my own.
