about the author
Regina Walker was born in the beautiful state of Colorado. She moved to Oklahoma in her late teen years, where she has resided ever since. She likes to curl up on the couch and binge-watch crime shows with her hard-working husband. When she’s not wrestling with a writing project, she can be found wrangling their children, riding their horses, or tending the garden. Along with finding horses on their small farm, chickens, dogs, and cats can be found at nearly every turn.
Regina crafts compelling characters facing some of life’s hardest challenges. Her heart’s desire is to always point toward Jesus through the way her characters face challenges, relationships, and adversity.
Share five favorites!
R: dessert – Ice Cream
mode of vacationing – Tent Camping
scripture – I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
childhood books – Misty of Chincoteague, The Black Stallion
bookish tech – Scrivener – operates how I think. I love using it.
B: Yes to all the ice cream! I love camping but we have a travel trailer… humidity can be and often is a misery in our neck of the woods.
What is your favorite activity or hobby not related to books?
R: Definitely horseback riding. I have the sweetest gelding, Legacy. He is a grulla and he is my second heart horse. He’s also proof that our God gives good gifts.
B: Horses are fascinating creatures! I’ve only ridden a few times personally but I certainly admire them!
What are some of the challenges you faced while writing We Go On?
R: Time is a precious commodity in a house of 7 kids. While they are not usually all here at the time same time (we are blended), I homeschool three of them. It was, and still is, a challenge to write consistently.
B: Sometimes I think it’s a challenge to do anything consistently with kids. I homeschool our four and it’s a full-time endeavor and lifestyle!
What book(s) are you reading right now?
R: Wild at Heart by John Eldredge – while I hope this gives me an inside track into the way God created my husband, I also hope it helps me write men authentically in my stories.
B: Two birds, one stone… wise!
What is your next release and/or what are you working on now?
R: Still With Us is an emotional tale of overcoming abuse and substance use. This story follows a mother and daughter as they unpack their own personal traumas and bond as they heal. It doesn’t come easy, but it will be worth it.
B: Oh my heart, what a challenge!
What’s your writing style?
R: I’m definitely a plantser. I start with the scene that started the whole thing in my mind. I write until I’ve exhausted the creative frenzy. Then my outline starts as more of a timeline with the months and seasons that the story is occurring in. I like to try to orient the moving of time with the weather and change of seasons. This outline helps me do that.
Usually, when I get through orienting the timeline, I have another creative surge and I start writing again until the creative frenzy settles. Then it’s more outlining – lots of retrospective outlining moreso than a plan for moving forward. I use the outline I create to help me summarize the story and to help me write the blurb.
B: Sounds like you have your method down pat! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit with us, Regina!
R: Thank you for taking the time to stop by and read all about me and my writing process today. I appreciate the time you’ve spent with me today!
