On Wings of Devotion with Roseanna M. White q&a

Hello, reader friends! We’re visiting with Roseanna M. White today as part of a JustRead Publicity Tours blog tour celebrating her new release, On Wings of Devotion!

about the author

Roseanna M WhiteRoseanna M. White is a bestselling, Christy Award-nominated author who has long claimed that words are the air she breathes. When not writing fiction, she’s homeschooling her two kids, editing, designing book covers, and pretending her house will clean itself.

Roseanna is the author of a slew of historical novels that span several continents and thousands of years. Spies and war and mayhem always seem to find their way into her books…to offset her real life, which is blessedly ordinary. You can learn more about her and her stories on her website.

q&a

What is your favorite activity or hobby not related to books?

R: I love designing book covers…though that’s more second career at this point than just-for-fun. As hobbies go, my favorite non-bookish one is probably knitting.

B: You’ve got it bad, Ro… that first one IS related to books.

Share an interesting background tidbit about On Wings of Devotion.

R: These characters are actually in their third story! When I originally conceived Arabella and Camden, they were in Jamaica during the glory days of the pirates. Camden was, of course, the most feared pirate of them all.

That story never got past a few chapters, but several years ago I was trying to come up with a Regency idea to pitch and decided Cam and Ara would make great Regency characters. I wrote a few chapters of them that way…then ended up moving into Edwardian instead.

But hey, why let go of good characters?? I decided to give them one final home—World War I England, where Camden is now a pilot instead of a pirate, and Arabelle is a nurse. Love how they turned out!

B: I’m definitely going to be picturing Camden as a pirate-pilot now, lol!

What book(s) are you reading right now?

R: A Pursuit of Home by Kristi Ann Hunter in fiction, The Thrill of the Chase by Forrest Fenn in non-fiction, and The Problem of Pain by C. S. Lewis in my quiet time. Next up in the fiction world is Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl.

B: Great variety, I love it!

What is your reading style?

R: In general, I love a good paperback. I do use a tablet to review manuscripts for my publishing company or read books by my author friends for endorsement. And I’ve just gotten into audiobooks in the last year and a half, as incentive to make myself exercise, LOL.

B: I need to figure out a way to trick myself into exercising while reading.

What is your next release and/or what are you working on now?

R: Next up is the final book in The Codebreakers series, A Portrait of Loyalty, which should be coming next September. And I’m excited that I’ll have a stand-alone between this series and my next, called Dreams of Savannah, which should be hitting shelves next December-ish (obviously set in the American South, given the title, ha ha—Civil War era).

I’m just getting started on writing my new series, though, which begins with The Nature of a Lady. This one is set earlier in the Edwardian era on the gorgeous Isles of Scilly off the coast of England and is going to be so much fun!

B: Oh my goodness, so many wonderful stories on the way!!! Thank you so much for sharing with us, Roseanna!

On Wings of Devotion by Roseanna M White

Genre: Historical Romance
Publisher: Bethany House
Release Date: January 7, 2020

Against Every Warning, She’s Drawn Ever Closer to the Man Known as “Black Heart”

All of England thinks Major Phillip Camden a monster–a man who deliberately caused the deaths of his squadron. But he would have preferred to die that day with his men rather than be recruited to the Admiralty’s codebreaking division. The threats he receives daily are no great surprise and, in his opinion, well deserved.

As nurse Arabelle Denler observes the so-dubbed “Black Heart,” she sees something far different: a hurting man desperate for mercy. And when their families and paths twist together unexpectedly, she realizes she has a role to play in his healing–and some of her own to do as well.

With Camden’s court-martial looming, an old acquaintance shows up, intent on using him in a plot that sends the codebreakers of Room 40 into a frenzy. With their fragile hopes for the future in the cross hairs, Arabelle and Camden must hold on to hope–and to each other–if they want to survive.

  1. I loved her last series & the first book in Codebreakers. Thankfully the wait for this 2nd book seemed shorter to me…or I was just wrapped up in the chaos of holidays all last fall. ? Thanks for sharing the interview!!
