q&a

What is your favorite activity or hobby not related to books?

S: Crazily, one of my favorite things to do is DIY projects on my home.  I’ve been known to take old tables and turn them into ottomans, or strip and stain an old dresser, or search for cool old antiques I can repurpose.  And, I love to work on decorating projects.

B: We enjoy DIY projects too! I’d rather be reading or camping (and reading) but DIY is up there! 😉

S: One of my favorite parts of this story is that a part of it is set in Far East Russia, where I used to live. I included a tiny village where our friends live (and we visited) as well as the ambiance of the trans-Siberian train!  So fun to “revisit” a place where we lived for a decade in my book!

B: Sounds fascinating! I can’t wait to literarily visit!

What are some of the challenges you faced while writing Wyatt?

S: I had to figure out how to wedge the relationship with Wyatt and Coco into the history/timeline that was already established in all the previous books. I knew they were together, but I also had a few secrets between them that I needed to seed into the story. So figuring out their past was a little tricky. But, I enjoyed digging around and finding the quiet, delicious details of their past.

B: You seriously blow my mind with the story intricacies, my friend!

What is your reading style?

S: I read every night, on my tablet.

B: Consistency! I like it! This is the best Wyatt inspired Susan May Warren q&a chat ever!

What is your next release and what are you working on now?

S: I just finished RJ [Ruby Jane], book 6 in my Montana Marshalls series. I am loving the conclusion of this series!

B: Eeeeeee! I’m also loving this series (from the middle, currently).

What’s your writing style?

S: I am a plotter. I like to figure out who my character is, what he wants, why, and why he has to go on this journey now. I like to use a method called The Story Equation, which helps me understand their dark moment story, and from there, pull out the pieces of their story. Then, I “tell myself the story,” or figure out the journey, and from there, I start working it out, scene by scene.

B: I purchased The Story Equation for my aspiring-writer daughter and she filled page after page with notes! Thank you!

Do you have any writing quirks?

S: POPCORN is my secret weapon. ?

B: Yes! Popcorn is one of my favorites! I’d rather eat chocolate but popcorn seems healthier. ?

He’s lost her twice…he’s not going to lose her again…

NHL Hockey Goalie Wyatt Marshall has everything—fame, money and a thriving career. But he’s hiding the two things that matter most…a career-ending injury, and his broken heart. He’s been in love with Coco Stanley since she walked into his life at age fourteen, a foster child for the Marshall family. She stole his heart years later, when, after a secret tryst, she returned to her home country of Russia. But she won’t let him back into her life—and he can’t figure out why.

She’s harboring a secret that could cost lives…

Coco Stanley is tired of living her life undercover. Or at least, with an assumed name, always pretending to be someone she’s not. And that’s not the only secret she’s harboring. If Wyatt discovers the real reason she left him, it might just destroy him. She’s resigned herself to loving him from afar…

But when he discovers she’s in danger…

Wyatt is horrified when he learns Coco has been shot and left in Russia, her fate unknown. There is nothing—nothing—that will stop him from finding her. So what if he’s not one of his super-heroic brothers, not a Ranger, not a SEAL…Wyatt is a hockey goalie, a special kind of crazy brave. Except, is he brave enough to face the secret Coco is keeping, or will it destroy everything he’s hoped for?

What will it cost them to save her?

What Wyatt and Coco don’t know is that revenge is stalking her and bringing her home just might cost them their long-awaited happy ending.
