Allison Wells is a new author, but for the most part she’s a Southern wife and mother.

With four active children, she spends most of her time in the car, but when she can she loves to sit down and read or write.

Allison is a graduate of Clemson University in the beautiful foothills of South Carolina and she still lives close enough to hear football games on Saturdays.

War-Torn Heart came about after I was a reporter for a local newspaper. I covered town council meetings for a small little place called Six Mile, South Carolina. Photos on the wall displayed a very proud history and I was intrigued. With Clemson University and it’s rich military history just a few miles away, I knew a story marrying both small town and military college would be perfect.

The town has never been large and has always been friendly. Placing my main character, Abby, here with her family was idyllic as she grew up naive and happy. Harvey, our hero, comes from a world away in Charleston, and he is the epitome of the Southern gentleman. The pair have a secret meeting place in the ruins of an old plantation, which were prevalent in the area a hundred years before they met.

Of course, placing the book at a military college lent itself perfectly for a World War II era love story, and Harvey joins the U.S. Army after Pearl Harbor is bombed. In reality, the entire Clemson class of 1943 enlisted in the war effort, so Harvey would naturally join them. I was able to place several Clemson facts in the story, from cadets who became prominent names to the actual score of the Clemson vs. North Carolina game in 1941. Those were fun to research.

Having lived in the area in which the story takes place for twenty years, the lives of my characters are really a part of me. Clemson and the surrounding towns are a unique mix of small town and college, of progress and good old boys, and a story of Southern roots.
