Literarily For Keeps: First Line Friday

Hello, reader friends! Where did the week go?! I’ve been rushing around like a crazy person and you, my dear reader friends, didn’t even see me here on the blog once! Weeks like this call for novellas like Literarily For Keeps!

Fortunately, we slipped away for a quiet family camping trip last weekend and enjoyed some peace, quiet, and pleasure reading (shhh! don’t tell my tbr). I’ll share an abbreviated recap of the week and hopefully, I’ll have a series review for y’all HERE this weekend.

Monday: Hope by the Book guest article from Toni Shiloh plus an author spotlight featuring Jean C. Gordon on CFRR

Tuesday: squeezed in a Facebook live cover reveal for Amanda Dykes

Wednesday: spotlight post for Burden of Proof on Diversity Between the Pages and hosted Laurie Tomlinson on Seekerville

Thursday: Hope by the Book article on indie publishing

Today: 2 First Line Fridays posts and there’s a giveaway over at Hoarding Books!

My calendar looks like an overloaded parking lot. If y’all would send up a little prayer for wisdom on my behalf, I’d sure appreciate it! Something has to give but I don’t know which hat I’m supposed to put down.

Literarily For Keeps by Sarah Monzon

Have you ever been in a situation where you took a step back, looked around, and said to yourself, “How did my life become one big cliché?”

Doesn’t this cover and title just make you smile?! This is one of the many books I’m longing to read once all the craziness settles down to a manageable level (but since it’s short, I might be able to squeeze it in sooner rather than later).

Sarah’s Bookishly Ever After (now released individually but you can check it out in the Timeless Love First Line Friday feature) was completely delightful! I’ll do a full review of her entire collection of bookish novellas once it’s complete.

  1. Great line! I read my first book by Monzon a few weeks ago. It won’t be the last! Here’s the first line from Lethal Target by Janice Cantore. “The dream was always so vivid for to Tess.” Have a great Friday!

Emma Maxwell Norman pushed a stroller with her two-year-old twin daughters closer to the Big Heart Ranch main corral, where hoots and hollers of excitement filled the air.

  3. This looks like a great novella. Thanks for sharing!

My first line comes from: The Christmas Heirloom (4 different authors)
    Lancashire, England (Christmas~1827)

From a purely rational standpoint, Sarah Gooding should have been ecstatic with her present position.

  4. Loved reading this book!! Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Mary Connealy’s newest book “The Reluctant Warrior”. Here I’ll share the first line from chapter 20 of the same book.

  5. My first line is from The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson:
The town of Rye rose from the flat marshes like an island, its’ tumbled pyramid of red-tiled roofs glowing in the slanted evening light.

  7. I need to read her novellas!! I’m sharing from The End Begins by Sara Davison today. Here are the first lines from Chapter 1:

Meryn didn’t move until a loud thud and a shout from upstairs yanked her from her stunned silence. “We need to get out now.”

    Happy Friday and happy reading!

  8. I love the cover of this one! And it’s a fun read 🙂

I’ve just finished reading Things Left Unsaid by Courtney Walsh (one of those books I opened to copy the first line so I could share it, but got hooked. So now I’m sharing the first line after I’ve read the last. And I’m sharing a day late. #SorryNotSorry). Here’s the first line:

“This is it, Lyndie. Don’t blow it.”

On my blog, I’m sharing from an old favourite Australian contemporary Christian romance that’s recently been re-released: Return to Baragula by Mary Hawkins. I hope you get a chance to check it out.

  9. This week on my blog I shared Ours for a Season by Kim Vogel Sawyer but I’m currently reading Chosen People by Robert Whitlow so here I’ll share the first line from my current chapter (26): “Hana had trouble containing her excitement during her morning Skype session with Daud.” Hope you have a great weekend with plenty of reading!
