Hello, reader friends! I’m still in recovery mode after our big family vacation and blogger break!

My husband, four children, and I took the train from southern Illinois to eastern Washington state and that meant lots of time for family and READING!!! I gobbled up EIGHT books while we were jostled along the rails and I have a new respect for early railway passengers!

Keep your eyes open for some of those reviews here. I’ll be posting them just soon as I can sit down without falling asleep and as quickly as my swoof will allow!

This pretty cover was waiting for me in my mailbox when we returned home and I’m so intrigued by this book! This is a new to me author so if y’all have read this author’s work, please let me know.

  1. Wow. Eight books! AND all that way on a train. That’s what I call heaven. 🙂 (We’re a train-loving family!)

    I’m featuring the SECOND line from Crystal Walton’s ‘Just Maybe’ on my blog this week (Carrie has the first line on Reading is my Superpower). But here, I’m going to share the first line from my current read: a speculative novel called ‘Day Moon’ by Brett Armstrong. Here’s the first line:

    1. Well, the train certainly cemented our love of road trips 😉 I think we just need to invest in a travel trailer so we have our own beds and bathroom with us at all times!

My five favorite must haves when packing are lots of books, my kindle in case I run out of books I can fall back on it for back up, small ice chest with my diet citrus green tea, sunscreen because even in the winter the sun seems to find me, comfortable walking shoes because we always go off the beaten path to explore, and a few individual packaged snacks that will fit in a pocket or purse for that fast pick me up. Those items along with hubby and furbaby and I’m ready to go any where – any time. 🙂

    1. I was all ebooks and audiobooks this time, we tried to travel as light as possible for a family of 6! I missed having our cooler full of food and my furbaby had to stay at grammy’s house.

      Great line! I never have a hard time sleeping in a vehicle (actually I’m plagued by the opposite problem!)

        Haha, My parents used to take me for rides in the car when I was little to get me to go to sleep. I tend to still fall asleep during car rides, especially if it’s a long one. I slept the entire time while we were driving through Miami once. Haha.

  10. Happy Friday! I want to share the first line from the first chapter instead of from the prologue: (This is a REALLY fun book to read!)

  14. Just finished The Captivating Lady Charlotte by guess who? Carolyn Miller! Number two in this Regency series!

    The room glimmered with a thousand points of sparkling light, the bright glow from the enormous crystals-dropped chandelier glinting off heavily beaded gowns, ornate mirrors, and the desperation shining in dozens of pairs of eyes.

  20. My husband and I travel all the time, esp. overseas. My 5 packing must haves are 1) my kindle as it has my books on it including my Bible 2) my meds! 3) a comfy pair of shoes 4) identification 5) and snacks. Robert Whitlow is one of my favorite authors. I have almost all of his books and love them!

  24. I read this book on my vacation in September. It was like I reading a current day event. Really well written.

    I am currently reading Deadly Proof by Rachel Dylan. The first line is: “You can’t call that a settlement offer.”

  32. That sounds like a fun train ride and lots of books. We have often spoke of taking a long train trip but so far it hasn’t happened. I don’t think I have ever read a Robert Whitlow book but I am always ready to read new to me authors.
